Role overview
About Analogy Group
Analogy Group builds AI-powered research and political intelligence systems. We help advocacy organizations, researchers, and mission-driven companies understand complex networks of people, organizations, issues, and events. Our products bring together information from news, public records, websites, PDFs, audio, video, and other data.
We use language models to structure and analyze that information, then make it useful through knowledge graphs, research workflows, reports, tables, and interactive maps. We are a small, ambitious team. Engineers have substantial ownership over the product and the architecture behind it.
The Role
We are hiring a backend engineer to help build the core of our platform. This is a broad product-engineering role. You might design a data model for representing political relationships, build an API for a collaborative research feature, improve the reliability of a long-running AI workflow, or trace a production problem across Django, Postgres, Prefect, and AWS.
You will work closely with the founders, other engineers, and researchers. Many projects begin as an incomplete product idea or a difficult research problem. We are looking for someone who can clarify the problem, make sound technical decisions, and carry the work through to production. Our backend is primarily Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Postgres, and Prefect.
We run on AWS and integrate with several LLM providers, search platforms, media sources, and other external systems. This is a fully remote, full-time role for engineers based in India.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build backend features across knowledge graphs, research workflows, reports, data views, collaboration, and access control - Model complex and evolving domains clearly in Django and Postgres.
- Build reliable interfaces used by our web application, integrations, and AI agents.
- Develop LLM-powered product features that turn messy source material into structured, traceable research.
- Design background workflows that handle concurrency, retries, partial failure, scheduling, and long-running execution.
- Own production concerns including observability, performance, security, deployments, and incident diagnosis.
- Work directly with researchers and users to translate real research needs into practical software.
- Use coding agents extensively while maintaining a high standard for design, testing, and review.
- Help establish engineering practices for a team and codebase that are growing quickly.
What We’re Looking For
- Around 5 or more years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence of unusually strong engineering ability.
- Excellent Python skills and substantial experience building production backend systems.
- Strong knowledge of relational data modeling, SQL, migrations, transactions, and application-level consistency.
- Experience designing maintainable APIs and business-logic modules rather than concentrating behavior in framework views or background jobs.
- Experience with asynchronous or distributed work such as task queues, workflow orchestrators, event processing, or scheduled jobs.
- A record of owning meaningful features from initial requirements through production operation.
- Strong judgment about abstractions, testing, security, observability, and operational failure modes.
- Comfort working independently in a small remote team and communicating technical decisions clearly.
- Experience using coding agents such as Codex or Claude Code, along with the ability to verify and improve agent-generated work.
- Interest in applying technology to politics, government transparency, advocacy, or other public-interest problems.
Nice to Have
- -
- Experience with Django, Django REST Framework, and Postgres.
- - Experience with Prefect, Temporal, Dagster, Airflow, Celery, or a similar orchestration system.
- - Experience building production applications with LLMs, retrieval systems, knowledge graphs, or AI agents.
- - Experience operating applications on AWS.
- - Familiarity with TypeScript and modern frontend applications.
- - Experience with data acquisition, document processing, or web scraping.
- - Contributions to open-source software or thoughtful technical writing.
- - Previous work in political technology, civic technology, media intelligence, or research software.
Location and Compensation
- Fully remote within India.
- Highly competitive compensation, based on experience and demonstrated ability.
- Close collaboration with a small team and substantial influence over the product and technical direction.
